Title: Introduction - who is who?
Post by: lao ce on July 31, 2009, 04:03:57 PM
I have to admit sometimes I don't have a clue which nick name goes with which car on the track. Maybe I am not alone. I think it would help to have a decoder topic.

lao ce is Zsolt, my car is 72 HS. Mostly I work in Moby on the computer and with the OVR website.

Brent Hathaway, shameless car whore, will drive just about any anything I can get the owner convinced of that needs "exercised".    Most recently it's been 89 FSP Mazda MX3 and 7 HS MINI Cooper, but I'm headed to California to get a new toy...... Hint: it'll be 89 ES and not a Miata or MR2.... ;D

Scott Jenkins here.  Red Del Sol STS13.  Bub is a name of a cat I once had..  hence why I use that name for things like forums and such.  An easy way to recognize anyone is to just upload a photo of your car as your thumbnail avatar.  Now that does not help with face recognition, but still... it helps.  Also you can add the info in your profile to show below your avatar pic..  You can put whatever you want in there... I just put in my car # and type.   I guess I am easy to spot too being the only guy driving a Del Sol instead of an S2000 or a true Civic.   ;D

I play in dirt more than on the tarmac these days, but you may remember me from such Classes as STS, GS, STX, etc.

These days I hang out in M4 which might translate to DM or something crazy in the Solo world.

TJ Stover, GS #55 (if I can keep it), blue 08' Mustang V6.

First ever autocross event in my life was the Saturday Oct 17th event.

I was going to say the hell with it after the experience I had but from reading the forums I got the impression that a multitude of issues all came together in a "not like OVR" way that day.... So I decided to hang around and see how things go. Didn't get a chance to get to the 31st event unfortunately.

Hopefully will make some more events next year.

It's a great group TJ. The 17th event was uncharacteristically bad. I still had a good time, but not like the other events. My name's Gary, I drive the silver Corvette in my picture. By all means, introduce yourself next year. I'll be glad to introduce you to others, give you any pointers, etc. OVR is a great group of folks, it really is. As you get to know us, you'll love autocrossing and the other events such as the PDX will be lifelong memories if you do them, guaranteed.

Matt, the utter hack in the cheap ST Saturn.  Yeah, the one waaay in the back of the pack.  Probably leaking or breaking somehow, if it was early in the season.  Now that it doesn't seem intent on exploding, gonna keep the fanplastic concraption and try to make a go of it in FSP (thank you, SEB!)  Now who wants to sell me some 15" R-comps?

I heard that the terrified, screaming passenger had the door open and was trying to jump, tuck, and roll to bail out.  But you went even faster slamming the open passenger door into a row of large pylons to prevent the escape. Corner workers claim that a sinister, evil, laugh echoed from the bowels of your 'vette for the remainder of the run.... then back in grid you complained about the gooey mess on your upholstery, and ranted that the pylons shouldn't count against your run since you were only trying to "save" the passenger..........  is that true????

More notably ran the silver/blue/magenta #14 Formula Ford in '05 and '06.

My intro......

Kevin Sobkowiak - 21 XP
2009 Cincy Region XP Champ
93 RX-7ish

I live in Cincinnati, OH.  I drive an RX-7 with a big dum V8 in it, and a differential from a different big dum car.   ;)

I just found the forum and I'm looking to have some autox fun up in your region this year.  My brother lives in Columbus and I'll probably come stay with him the night before.  I just want to get some more seat time than I am able to get in my region alone.

Anyways, here is a pic of my car, if you see me come say Hi.

Brian

I used to have a red 5th gen prelude in various classes (DS/STS/DSP) a few years ago (back when I had free time).

Now I have a white e30 and have done a few events here and there with it.  I'm putting a better suspension on it as we speak.  Hopefully will be able to do more events this season in STX since I'm finally getting some of my free time back.

I'll have a few options of what to drive when the first Solo event comes up. More than likely will be a stock 07 Fit to get myself acquainted with actual performance driving.

or

Not sure what class either of these cars would end up in. Glad to be on here!

Just from the pics, the Tofu Delivery vehicle would be in ST at minimum, and the 240 with the redtop SR and aluminum radiator would be in SM or SMS depending on the type of tires used.

Shane-

It dont matter what others think of the car as long as you are out there having fun and learning!  I bet if you asked (and could get a real answer) we all have cars that were unusuall to bring to any kind of event in our past (or future).  Besides its the unusuall ones that do well and make us all go "HHHMMMMM I wonder what I could do with......."

I just picked up that 86 about a year and a half ago. Got it from a friend who needed money, just a GTS with a red-top swap and a Tokico/Espelier setup and Nitto NeoGens. So far it's gotten a new windshield, new pads/rotors, a starter, needs a battery, and some other general TLC. It REALLY needs new paint, the pictures might hide that a little bit, but someone did not do a good job at all on the black stripes/bumpers. If I bring this out, you guys will see what I mean  :-[

Hah, the Cadet is my dad's and all he enjoys doing is watching me kick my own ass trying to put that 240 together.

Worry less about the car, worry more about learning to drive it well.

This is the fastest path to placing better in AutoX, but almost nobody takes it...  :D

Look forward to getting to know everyone this year.  See you all on the 10th!  ;D

I plan on running but I want to see everything in action before just showing up to run. I also am waiting on some sway bar endlinks for my rear sway bar so I do not want to push the car to much.

Here is the vehicle I plan on running.

You should run.  If you don't you're gonna get like 30 minutes into the day and be like OMG I WANT TO PLAY TOO!!!  The car will be fine without the endlinks.

Thanks for the advice already.

Parts include:

Tein springs, tokico shocks, AEM intake, Tanabe super medallion hyper exhaust. With these parts what class would I be in? I was thinking ST?

I'm Kevin Funk.  I live in Athens, OH.  I have a 1974 BMW 2002, but I haven't been out to a race in a while.  Sometimes I run in EP, sometimes in FSP, with the #74.  I used to run a red miata as #43 in CSP, circa 2002.  I once ran a rental ford focus in rallycross.... I once drive a giant chicken shack in the 24 hrs of LeMons...

Don Myntti from Kimbolton Ohio.  I am a total rooky noob.  I have driven all of one autocross lap (the very first drive on a just completed car).  My one lap was at the Grass Roots Motorsports $2010 challenge.  I will be honing my skills in the OVR this year in what appears to be an E-Mod car.
The Car:

75 Datsun 280Z with a 350 Chevy, single powerstroke turbo, powerglide, a cage, and some suspension mods (low buck stuff).

The car weighs 2550 with me in it and makes about 450 hp when I connect the boost hose.

Michael Ford from Marysville, Ohio. Been racing off and on for two seasons, although not consecutively. Tried to get into autocross a couple years ago, then lost my job. Then tried again, and drove my car into a ditch just a couple weeks before the start of the season (D'oh!). Now that I am gainfully employed and a safer driver, I am looking forward to finally finishing a season :)

I drive the red 'yota Celica GT-S, 77 ST (or whatever they've changed the name to this year).

Tony Alfano, Lancaster Ohio by way of Florida and North Carolina
Was a driving instructor, course designer, safety steward, and event coordinator in the Central Florida Region.  Past cars included 2 91 MR2 turbo's, MR2 spyder, Mazda Miata, and an RX-8.  Currently don't have a suitable autocross car-hence the 2011 Elantra I borrowed from my wife for the first points event.  It was better than expected, but would love to co-drive with someone in a more appropriate car at our next event.  Unless we are going to start an MPG class.  Cause I would clean up in that class.

I will be in H Stock as the EM car is in Knoxville, TN sleeping peacefully.

Hello All.

I'm Stephen.  I ran the last event, PE #3, in the White Evo X GSR, which was my first event ever.  SMS was rough to me. . .

I'm trying to figure out the outside wear on my front tires before the next event (already "maxed" camber (-2  ::)))  debating nothing, a camber bolt, and a drop(springs or coilovers).

Title: Re: Introduction - who is who?
Post by: Brian on June 03, 2011, 07:55:53 PM
fix driver first, most tend to overdrive esp on street tires & Stock suspension. I would recommend higher pressures in the tires to help stiffen the side wall of the tires as well.. will reduce the rollover & outside wear some.

Generally, yes.  I have road raced up to 42 lbs in front and 50 lbs read (hot pressures) with no issues.  That was when a 60 series was considered a low profile tire.

Bob,

Welcome to the OVR Forum!

A few of us here remember Powell Speedway.  It's where I learned autocrossing.  When specifically did you run there?  I started running in 1980, so we  missed each other. But, you probably ran with some of the folks like Glenn and Elsie Hanninger, John Fergus, Phil Alspach (still active), Andy Toth (active when I can drag him out), George and Donna Clark, etc. Pete is still active running a Porsche powered A-Mod car, along with his daughter Jenny.

I am sure TurboEd and others will be happy to sell you Miata stuff they have cluttering their garages.  Really, the Miata is a good car out of the box and you probably shouldn't touch a thing til you get acclimated to the current classing structure...unless you are like a lot of us who can't leave well enough alone!  If you do anything, buy the right performance tires for the class you plan on running, but even these can wait until you get a few events under your belt.

Rich

Rich thanks for the reply. I have never ran AX until two years ago here in the ETR local.Won first event in class on my BD.Been trying hard every sip nce and locked up an ST class jacket for the 2011 season in a 97 civic coupe HX stock cept for the cold air on star specs. Prob spent thirty minutes or so at the Ackerman lot on Thanksgiving day just looking it over and building courses while driving around on it. A lot less sealer than we have and less poles/curbs. I would to run with OVR soon at one point during this up comming season. Yeah Pete and John Fergus I know from Dad. Sort grew up at times in Petes garage along with a Guy named Ken with the mechanical arm. They built the first Damper for AX then Road racing. Again thanks OVR and would welcome any offers on Parts for my 92 miata. Gotta try to get it going like John Browns.(Toledo last summer)

I'm currently trying to sell it but if that doesn't happen I'll be driving it this season. I'm going to try to get to as many OVR and Cincy Region events as my work and finances allow. Hola!

Shawn here.

Only made it out to 1 event last year due to crazy work schedule.
It was my first time, and I had lots of helpful friends give me tips and it was a blast.
I had the white 2011 S4 (White Whale).

Just got rid of her for something more "compact", and should hopefully be able to show up to most of the events this year.

Thanks guys.  I have a few things to do with the car before I run it.  I have to get my 30k maintenence which is the big boy and change my fuel pump relay.  Shouldnt have any issues though.  Not sure if ill be there the 19th or the weekend after.  The DSM/Evo Shootout is that weekend and im not sure if Im going on the 18th or 19th.  Either way itll be one or maybe both, hah.  So I was looking at some of the Reads on Getting Started..would I be..

Novice since its my first event in the STU class?  Seems to fit my car the best.  2008 Evolution -- 245 tires -- A few bolt ons.

Depends on the bolt ons... elaborate.. STU is pretty restrictive, more open to suspension mods, not as open to 'common' evo bolt ons. we have a big SMS class that may be a good fit too.

Welcome to the autoX community.

Nothing major so far, upgraded Intake, UICP, and Cat Back.  I may have misread the SMS, ill check that out again.

As I mentioned, common evo bolt ons takes you out of STU, you would be in SMS.. STU restricts you to basically turbo back exhaust, and an intake filter (can NOT modify any part past the MAF, i.e. intercooler piping).

Look forward to seeing you out.

Within your list, only the UICP takes you out of STU.

no worries,

SMS is Street Mod Street Tires is the one you want
SM is the one where if you were you would be running slicks

as for PAX you don't have to pick anything

and for Vehicle # pick a number you would like to run, you'll notice we all run (with magnets or painters tape) a class (for you SMS) and a # (of your choosing as long as no one else is running the same one) when we run, it is how we are able to get results for our participants!

hope this helps.

So I'm 10SBMSport. That stands for 2010 Sport Blue Metallic (Ford Fusion) Sport. My name is Tyler.

I drive a car setup for STX. It's not super competitive, but fun nonetheless to see a 3500lb sedan hustle around a course.

Anyways, I will probably be at an event or two with you guys this year. I'm from the Northwest Ohio Region, but I want to get a few events before our season starts.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

I already put a relatively large, in comparison with stock, rear sway bar on. 24mm but I'm considering a 27mm just for rotation's sake.

Hi there. Just thought I'd introduce myself before I start randomly showing up in various threads/events. I'll be the brand new guy with the (mostly stock) 2012 STI, and the look of extreme sleep deprivation, as I'm on the graveyard shift for the next few months. However, I still intend to make as many events as I can and I generally only work every other weekend, so maybe I'll get lucky and the scheduling stars will align in my favor. Cheers!

Hey all. Name's Drew and I am new to the autocross stuff.  Went to my first event last sunday at OSU and got bit by the bug while getting some ride alongs.  I'll be running the August 24 event at OSU in my '98 m3 sedan in STU.  It's Tom Wahjudi's old car.  I think that I did check the novice box on the registration. I had no idea what I needed to do haha.

A little background on me.  Been racing something since about the age of 10 or 11. Motocross for a while then jr. dragsters into a super comp drag car, then turbo DSM drag racing before my big run in WERA and AMA motorcycle road racing.  Looking to get back into the roadracing, but not ready for the huge outlay of funds that comes with that haha. so autocross it is!

Welcome, Drew!  You will have to tell us stories about your other racing sometime!

Hello,

My name is Derek and I attended Event #9 at OSU Ackerman.

It was my first-ever autocross and an absolute blast! Kinda wished I had started this years ago!

It's hard to resist putting on better suspension and tires, but I know the driver upgrade is needed the most.  ;D I am really looking for next event.

Thanks for OVR for organizing the event and everyone there being friendly and helpful for a newbie!

Derek

Wise choice in working on "driver upgrades" first!  Please feel free to seek out the folks with "Instructor" stickers on their cars - we will gladly have you ride along with us - or ride along and help/critique to help you get up to speed.  I'm sure Rich G. will chime in here soon (he always does) and he would be a great resource on Hondas...

Derek,

Happy to help in any way I can.  Call me at (central Ohio area code that begins with 6) Five six 1 Thirty Four 12.

Spend money first on driving and events, then on the car.  Don't spend hardly any money on parts until you get a handful of events under your belt, and even a Drivers School.

Hey all,

My name's Charles. I drive the 2012 VW Golf R pictured below.

I live in Northfield about a half hour south of Cleveland. To date I've done one HPD event w/ instruction, maybe 30-40 drag runs and a few club autox events and that about sums up my experience. Looking to get some more seat time this year with the hopes of being competitive a few years down the line.

It seems my options here in NEO are severely limited regarding autocross. NORA is MIA and the NEO SCCA had four events last year, although they could expand. Seems I'll be coming down south a bit. I hear good things about OVR.

Any tips for a noob are welcome. Specifically would be interested to hear whether the starting line event @ Wilmington is worth it or whether I'm better off just coming to a few events.

Thanks all! Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Hello Charles, welcome to OVR events.

Best things,

Prepare - water, some tools, sunscreen, hot/cold weather clothing, rain gear, and a nice fitting helmet. We have loaners but I prefer my own head funk.

Get to know the events and event structure - pay attention to how the event runs, what you need to do, where you need to be.

Get to know someone faster than you - best if they're in the same class and/or a similar car.

Drive - just get seat time. There is no sense in modifying the car when you have no idea what you want it do better yet. Combine it with the someone faster than you to get better pointers and make better use of your time. At first, concentrate on pointers regarding the course, how to attack it, and basic driving method over the finer details of driving and suggested mods to the car.

Luckily, you are reasonably close to both OVR and NWOR events. Both hold (IMO) first-class events and, between their schedule and ours (and NeOH if they get ramped up), you should be able to find plenty of seat time.

In OVR's case, you can look for the cars with 'INSTRUCTOR' decals on the sides. They are drivers that have signed up to be interrupted at almost any time to help out our newer folks. You can pretty much ask them anything, they will get you pointed in the right direction.

I don't think I'd ever turn down a opportunity to run at Wilmington, especially if they are using the big concrete pad. But even the asphalt lot out front isn't bad.

Mike Smith

Charles,

Welcome.

Echoing what Mike said, I also believe the "Starting Line" events should be well worth the money.  Top notch instruction, plenty of runs, and WILMINGTON which is an awesome facility.

Nice looking VW you have there.  Looking forward to seeing you at our events.  I drive the white '89 Civic Si with a ton of stickers on it.

Rich

Thanks Rich and Mike,

I'll definitely consider the Wilmington event based on your recommendations. $550 including a helmet and membership seems like a no-brainer.

Amen! I'll learn to drive it first and mod it later if at all.

See you all around! Thanks again.

Hi my name is Sean.

I drive a green miata and hope to be very active in autocross this year.

I live in Chillicothe and OVR is my home region but I'm so close to other regions that I will be going to a lot of other events as well.

Last year was my first year doing any autocross and I went to the last events for WOR and Cincy but was unable to make the season ender for OVR.

I look forward to meeting other OVR members at the upcoming events.

Depending on the exhaust (whether or not it has cats), you could be in STX.

Otherwise, ESP or SMS would be good choices.

Hi folks! I auto crossed from 1992 to 97. I'm thinking about doing this again on a cheap budget. I'm thinking about either Street Touring Sport or Street Touring Compact. If there is a cheaper class to run in, I'm all ears and I'm also looking for a vehicle to do this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Randy,

It sounds like you are planning to purchase a car before selecting a class.  True?

f you need to buy a car to run with, there are numerous options.  Street Touriing (ST) has a number of inexpensive options at the local level.
STF,  STC, and STS can all be done on the cheap and they are fun to run.  There is freedom in the ST rule set to do some basic mods and make the cars much more fun to drive.

However, since the last time you autocross, they changed the "Stock" category to "Street"  which is (more or less) the old Stock category with the requirement to run treadwear 140 (TW 200 in 2015 and beyond) tires.  This is probably the cheapest option as the mods are limited.

What kind of car are you thinking about?

Rich

I think something like a 97-98 Ragtop Vette would be the perfect choice.

It would be great to see one that doesn't leak oil or need to be pushed off course.

Hi all. I made it out to the fun (aka cold, rainy, slippery) day at National Trail yesterday, driving my GTO. This was my first event since 2010, so felt like such a newbie. Nice to meet a few of you, and thanks to everyone who helped me out. Hoping to make a few more events this year!

Best,

Thanks, Paul. I ran much better after having you ride along. 58 secs isn't the best, but only had 6 runs - you know how tricky these are in the wet. Lots of fun though; cant wait to take a ride in the 4.6L.

I'm not sure what I want. It's probably best to come out to an event and look things over. I don't want to run my Vette. I'm looking for a turn key car for $5K or less and I don't want to trailer it. Just something cheap and fun.

A NA miata would fit the bill. Get some good street tires and run bone stock in the SR index class or throw some go fast suspension on it and run in STS. An stock NA miata would do reasonably well locally in the SR index class, but could also easily be bought and prepped < $5k.

Porsche 944's are also a popular option for a cheap, fun RWD car.

Or if you're more wrong-wheel-drive inclined, wait for Rich to post a link to a "Gods Chariot" craigslist find. Usually at least one every month or two.

I don't think I have posted in this topic when we started.

I am Greg McMillan, I go by Redhondasi usually, but changed my screen name to Banshee because of the car. I am 45 and serve in the Army Reserves since 2000. Was on active duty since 1987. Currently been in for 27

I autocrossed once in 2005 in a 01 Porsche Boxster and once In 2006 in my 99 Civic SI, both times when I was mobilized to FT Polk, LA. I started Autocrossing last year regularly.

Had the mod bug in 1991 with our 90 Civic Si we brought back from Germany.

My spouses name is Lori. We have been married for 27 years. She also first autocrossed last year for the first time.
She is usually quiet, so I post for both of us, but definitely don't speak for her. Opinions I post are usually my own, not hers.
We made a lot of friends last year and learned a lot about our car's and us. I am glad we found an activity we can enjoy together.
I got my son to come out for 3 or 4 events last year. He drove my 99 Civic SI. He seems to enjoy it too.

As has been said, miata is a great answer for you. Unfortunately most people sell their prepped cars in the fall, but stay patient and you can get a well set up STS miata for around $3-$4k.

I just sold mine in the fall but if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email (Schafer.jerry at gmail.com).  Or, find Matt in the blue sts miata at an event. He's basically the next best thing to me :D

Won't be making the event this weekend down in Wilmington, but I hope to be out there again soon!

Looks like the 2002 MR2 Spyder runs in E-street or STR. They could probably be pretty competitive locally in our local Street RWD index class but they would be way underpowered in STR.

The Spyder has the same 140hp engine as that year Celica GT, compared to the S2000's it would run against in STR, it wouldn't have a chance. I'll still never understand why they didn't put the 2ZZ-GE in that car. The extra 40 horses would have made a huge difference in a car that light.

In E-street it could probably hold its own against the miatas, but from a parts availability standpoint the miata can be built better for cheaper.  The aftermarket for that year MR2 was never fantastic and the limited number sold doesn't help things much.

That being said, they are nice looking cars. From a pure racing standpoint a miata is probably the ultimate cheap RWD autocross car, but the MR2 is going to have more creature comforts and would be a fun weekend warrior.

No problem! If I had a fatter wallet, and didn't need something a bit more practical I'd love to buy an MR2 Spyder and swap in a 2ZZ. For the money it's hard to beat a miata as a cheap autocross/track day car though.  I love my FR-S, but if I could do it over again I'd probably get a miata, avoid a car payment and put the extra money into modifying it.

I autocrossed in the early '90s, and did spend way too much money then. I ran an '88 Saleen in BSP, which took to a championship in the Central Division, before they split up into 2 divisions. It was fun, but as I look back I wish I had that money back, that I spent. That's why I decided I'm going cheap, if I do this.

I am an OVR Board Member and also on the Board of VETMotorsports.  We engage post 9/11 disabled combat vets in motorsports.  We will be at the May 17 event, and have a couple of cars with adaptive controls for our para drivers. www.vetmotorsports.com

I'd love to meet you prior to the event and talk about competing with adaptive controls.  If you can make it to the April 16 meetup, I'd enjoy the chance to talk to you.

Rich, I look forward to meeting with and talking to you. I am sure there are some challenges involving adaptive controls that I have not anticipated.

I have to correct an error in my previous post as well. The joke among my friends is that I am not a good driver.  :P I am sure you all figured that out. If not, you will soon enough!

Hi, I'm new to the board and fairly new to Autocross, I've done a few events at Goodguys shows, which gave me the bug.  I registered for the autocross at Trails on the 21st.  I'm driving a 1959 Ford Custom 300.  Now before all of you Subaru drivers quake in fear of the 1950's awesome technology I'm about to unleash, Fox body Mustang drivers scream in terror at the nimble ways of the famous road racing Custom 300, and Miata drivers sell your cars in the wake of the compact size and svelte body that is the hallmark of American cars of the 1950's, I promise to take it easy on you and only finish 10 to 20 seconds behind your worst times, rather than be competitive in any way shape or form.  I'll be competing in the CAM class so you Corvette drivers need to be prepared for the manual steering and rock hard tires that I have equipped my big Ford with in order to achieve its full fury.  You have been warned!

Seriously, is there anything I need to know about before I show up?  Is there enough room to set up an easy up (I have room in my trunk for a small village of elves to live and work)? Are passengers allowed? My wife loves to ride along.  How many runs do you get in a day?  I'm really looking forward to some track time with you all.

Yes.  Be ready to have fun.  (But something tells me you're already good at that.)

Is there enough room to set up an easy up (I have room in my trunk for a small village of elves to live and work)?

You'll have plenty of room to set up your compound.

Are passengers allowed? My wife loves to ride along.  How many runs do you get in a day?

Passengers are allowed, and encouraged, at all local events.  Be sure to hop in some other cars for a free ride as well.  I can't remember the last time we had less than 5 runs at a local event.  It's common for us to get 6 runs.  Last weekend we got 7 runs on a nasty rainy day.  Probably would have done 8 without the rain.  It all depends on the turnout.

Later,
BeerMan

Ron,

Does that example of automotive awesomeness have seat belts?  You'll need those!

Ah, a man who knows his automotive history! Although they were not even an extra cost option on that model in 1959, the laws of physics dictated that seat belts were put in soon after I bought the car.  Funny how the idea of bouncing off of the metal, non-padded dash on my way through the windshield and landing x number of feet away from the car doesn't have the same appeal it did in the 50's.  Thanks for all of your answers and help, oh, and I have a helmet to wear.  See you all on the 21st

Hey Guys,
I figured I should introduce myself, as I'm new to the region. I recently graduated college and relocated to the Columbus area to start a career. While I'm new to the region (last Saturday was my first event here), I've been autocrossing for the last ~3 years, whenever I could fit it into my schedule. I'm currently 'competing' in a 91 Ford Probe LX; as ridiculous and entertaining to drive as the car is, it's only a temporary autocross vehicle, until I can save up the money to invest in something actually competitive. I'm really excited to finally having the time and budget to actually get somewhat serious with this, and expect to be seeing a lot of you guys at future events. In the one event I've been to, I already met a bunch of awesome people and had a great time.

If you're looking to invest in something actually/really competitive, I've got just the car for you.  Ask others on this board whether I'm serious.

Time, (healthy) Budget, Somewhat Serious are all key words.  You could also throw Intoxicating Fun, and Chick Magnet into the description.   :)

Hi, I'm Jacob Knotts. I started racing last year after doing an alignment on Pete's Nissan (Sentra?) and meeting him. I drive the "lapis blue" 2004 Mazda 6s, usually 91SF.

I guess I missed a socializer yesterday, but I was at another meeting anyway.

Uh, I suppose while I'm here I may as well throw it out that I'm looking for employment (or internship?) My LinkedIn is available in my profile or sig (click my name). To explain the current employment gap: I was pretty ill last year, and thus laid off from my job, and only just recently felt well enough to work again.

In the meantime, I'm considering going to college to get a real degree. I'm still undecided, but leaning towards computer science or similar, though automotive engineering was another consideration. Also, if I have time (which I currently have nothing but), I'd love to become involved in the behind-the-scenes work of OVR.

See you guys next week!

Welcome Jacob. If anybody has a job opportunity for Jacob please consider him. He work on the alignment for the SpecV last year and was the only person at NTB that managed to get it right. He also volunteered to help me prep my car at the match tour last year and he wasn't ever entered at the event. I'll gladly provide a reference for him , if needed.

(EDIT: Actually, do you have the pale yellow E36? I remember seeing that car on three wheels last season right at the finish line of one of our NT courses. A really nice finish!)

don't be afraid to ask around about pretty much anything at events. even if you ask the wrong person chances are we can at least point someone out that can help. youll figure out pretty quick that most everyone is willing to help. at the local level the competition is friendly and mostly for bragging rights so when it comes to asking for a ride 9/10 times people will say hell yeah hop in

Welcome Tobin! Glad to see you make it back out this year. I was at the PDX with you last year and you were quite literally driving the wheels of that 240! Love how clean it is.

As others have said, people are usually more than happy to give you ride-alongs in their car or ride along with you to give you tips, so don't be shy!

I would also suggest to anyone who wants to get better to sign up for our drivers school later in the year. One on One instruction and plenty of seat time will do wonders

I've never driven on the Turanza's, but the Primacys aren't awful. You probably won't be trophying on them, but they have ok grip and hold up well as long as you aren't overdriving the car.

First-timer noob!

I'm Andy. I just joined the OVR-SCCA this year after doing a few one-off events in other regions in the last few years, so I hope to get out to as many events in 2015 as possible. Looks like - fingers crossed - May 10 will be the first one for me.

I drive a 2000 Roush-edition Mercury Cougar, #71 DSP. I've owned it for 13 years and just upgraded parts every time something broke - which was often. Between the wife and I we have other cars which would probably be more competitive, but I really enjoy campaigning in the Roush, so we'll see how she does this year. At 199,000 miles now, I might just end up going all-in with an engine swap after this season and bump it up to SMF...

Welcome Andy!

That's a nice look on that Cougar.   What does "Roush Edition" mean?  WHat does it include?

The Roush treatment was a handling and appearance package. Handling improvements included bespoke Roush springs and larger rear sway bar, larger wheel/tire package and uprated struts (although those have been replaced and upgraded three times or more since I've owned it; currently sitting on Bilsteins).

Above and beyond the Roush package, it now has a big brake kit, adjustable aluminum control arms, adjustable sway bar links, a smaller front sway bar, Torsen LSD, aluminum flywheel, rear cross-brace, front strut brace, and I have a pair of subframe connectors that I'm about to put on. It grips pretty well, and will rotate nicely on days when I have the tire pressures dialed in. It's just badly down on power.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm sure I'll see you soon.

Hey everyone, ran my first event with OVR at PE1. I'd driven a couple (three?) times with NWOR last year, and while I love LOVE driving at the Toledo Express Airport, only getting three runs while trying to acclimate to a live-axle RWD car wasn't cutting it. (and 2+ hour commute times suck too)
So, I changed my member affiliation to OVR this year, and look forward to running as many events as I can make.

I'm running a '12 Mustang V6 (black), and will likely run CAM from now on, although I ran STU at PE1- I ran CAM last year, and thought that the regs were going to tighten up to make it more true to the 'classic' name but that seems to not be the case.
I suffered from heinous lack of grip on the rear axle last year, and updated with LCA relo brackets, LCAs, and 285 Potenza RE-11s for this year. So far I really like what it's done to the car.

Welcome.  There are a few Mustangs that run here, be sure to talk to the owners.

I think if I had the budget (or at least the fab and tech skills!) I'd do a CAM car.   My favorite car at the Nats last year:

(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r228/31rx7/2014%20SCCA%20Solo%20Nationals/IMG_0575_zpsdddaad64.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/31rx7/media/2014%20SCCA%20Solo%20Nationals/IMG_0575_zpsdddaad64.jpg.html)

The photo really doesn't do it justice.  Sort of a resto-rat-rod thing going on.

Know what you mean at Toledo Airport.

We consolidate CAM into one class and it was pretty well subscribed here least year. Nationally, there is CAMT, CAMC, and CAMS (for Traditional, Contemporary, and Sport). You'd be in CAMC there. T is for 1972 and older.

IIRC, the driver's school and PE2 had to be swapped after the first schedule went out. This is why PE2 is on the 2nd.

See you out there.

Howdy, my name is Chadwick and I rock a black S2000. I purchased my S2k last March for the sole purpose of Autocrossing and doing track days in the future. I've been at the first 2 PE's and will be back out for PE3, PE4 and a couple others.

Hi everyone! I'm Jeff, and I'm driving a '14 Focus ST. Solo School yesterday was my first event, and I can't wait to get out again. I certainly took some life out of my all seasons, but I hope to have them swapped out soon enough.

I've been to the last 2 OSU lot events and I'm running my 90 Jetta Coupe TDI - 31 STF.. yes it's a diesel :D

I'm having fun learning the rules and figuring out how to get the car set up better. It's been good to get out and meet some folks and learn some new tricks too!

Hi Rob! Looking forward to seeing you run with us!

My dads buddy had a MKI Rabbit for years, he lent it to my Dad for a few weeks while his car was in the shop and that thing was a little monster.  By that point the exhaust had rusted through and it was loud as hell, no power, but man could that thing be thrown around. Fun little car.

Hey, new here. In Scioto county, I'll be moving to Toledo this summer and in Columbus regularly. I have a 99 Honda BB6. I'll be doing the autocross.

This board seems pretty dead?? I was excited to finally find something in Ohio.

Hey 'Bump!

Welcome.  The Board tends to die down around the holidays and doesn't pick up much until about a month or so before the first event.   Once the weather starts to break, the bears begin to come out of hibernation and we get all the "when is the first event?" and "OMG I HAVE TO GET MY CAR READY!" posts.

At that point, I usually start to poke fun at Brian and Kale and ZB, and that tends to get things stirred up and the activity picks up.

Post up a photo of your Civic.  What have you all done to it?  I've spent a fair amount of time in EF hatches, so have some familiarity with cars like yours.

Wasn't there a club down along the river somewhere that ran at an airport?

Rich

Post by: Country Bumpkin on February 18, 2016, 08:07:33 PM
Hey!

Yeah, there is still a club but due to changing regulations at the airport there is now nowhere to run. Currently in a search for a new location down here.

Actually my car is a Prelude type SH. The SH has the atts system which essentially functions as an electronically controlled differential to divert power to the outside wheel. Really other than a few bokt ons, it's moderately stock. Koni yellow neuspeeds and neuspeed springs. Front and rear sway bars with a 4 point harness in the rear. Despite being an absolute turd in the engine department it's pretty fun despite its weight.

It's seen track time at Mid-O but I've yet to be on an autox course with it. I'm new to this autox thing but that is the specific thing I am here to get involved in.

Sorry about the image, I don't really have many pictures of it.

Speaking of schedule announcements.............. It's getting close to the end of February.  Any word on the schedule?  I sure hope someone makes good contact with OSU before some other club beats us to it.

Royce,

Welcome to the Forum!

Finding a nice older Impreza can be a challenge.  There are a few folks on the board here that are into these, particularly the Rallycross folks.  Check with ZB Lorenc, Sigma Auto Tec, as he does a lot of Subaru work.  Same with Sean Butt at The Northend Wrench as he is always buying and flippling Subaru's.

Hi, all

TrixieTT95= Tami Tackett
I was driving the black 2011 Lexus GS 350 or aka-- "best Uber car ever" according to Matt M.  Next season I will be driving our new car, a rally blue 2018 Subaru WRX.... well as soon as I can learn to drive a stick shift car.  (It's a work in progress)

Thought I'd jump in on here too so I don't miss hearing about events or what's been going on.

I really enjoyed learning about and participating in AutoX this past season.  Randy and I have talked about how this is a great group of people.  Everyone is so friendly and willing to help those who are newbies.  :) :

I want to say a big THANK YOU to these specific people who were willing to coach/teach me about AutoX racing, encouraged me along the way, invited me to ride along in your cars or was just very welcoming to me into this group:  Simi and Aaron Ritch, Greg and Lori McMillan., Dan Michael, Alan Guy, Jeff and Taylor Majarian, Alex Speight, Connor Ryan, JD Geiger, Matt Mowry, Paul Weber, Mike Myers, Tonya and Mike Smith, Patrick Bull, Carol and Justin Herdman.

And of course a special thanks to my husband, Randy, for talking me into trying this and encouraging me the whole time.   ;)

Tami,

Welcome!

I really enjoyed watching the GS make its way through the courses.  Though it has a case of the "leans", it looks pretty good out there, and is probably the classiest car on course any given weekend!

Guess I should do this too.

I'm Alex Piehl. I'm originally from Toledo, but have been living in Pittsburgh for the past 12 years. I did my first ridealongs back in the 90s, but didn't actually run my 1st event until 2006, and 2nd event until 2014.

Despite the distance, I've actually attended 3 of your events so far this year (Test & Tune, PE1, PE2) and hope to return for more - especially if Chicken Gyros are involved. I usually attend somewhere between 50-70 events per year, so making my way back to Ohio isn't much of a big deal - just depends on what else is on the calendar that weekend.

I currently own a 2014 WRX classed in STH and a 2016 FiST classed in HS which I run from time to time - though I'm bored of both cars. I've spent the better part of 2018 driving other people's cars to see what I might get into for 2019. I typically have only run my cars at National events this year (or in the case of PE2 when my co-driver had to cancel last minute). If you have any suggestions on cars/setup to try, I'm all ears.

I admin a group on Facebook called Pittsburgh Autocross and have a small site (pghax.com) which tries to get people from the Pittsburgh Area out to events, OVR's included as your schedule is included in our list. We've already had quite a few folks from our area make the trip this year and hope to keep that going.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll continue to see you all around!

Hi! I suppose it's time I introduce myself. I'm Ashley, I drive the Barney colored 00 Acura Integra GSR. I've talked about wanting to try autocross for years and I get excited everytime I see an Integra, so with the help of my husband, we decided to give it a whirl this year and in what better car then a beloved Integra. I admit, probably not the best car if I want to be competitive, but I'm just having a ball out there so far with it!

I've also been photographing the events I've been at. I've been practicing photography for years but never really on moving cars, so please cut me some slack if I don't get a good photo of your car. I promise I'm trying my best!

I've been a car enthusiast for years. I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics of it all, but I'm hoping to learn as I continue down my autocross journey! Thanks for having me!
