Post by: RandyT on July 31, 2017, 10:11:37 AM
Is anyone here going to Carfest at Mid Ohio in September?

Interesting.  I see an event in Road Racing on 10/14 at Mid Ohio but I don't see any way to register for it.  Is that the same event or is it something else?

Interesting.  I see an event in Road Racing on 10/14 at Mid Ohio but I don't see any way to register for it.  Is that the same event or is it something else?

it's actualy a performance driving experience for those of us who don't want to fully road race but would like to do a track day
they will eventually get details posted / with supps and a link to register for it

OVR has done one of these for at least the last 10 years. It's a good time.. format:

Quote
First off, the format will be 4 run groups with the goal of getting everyone ~2 hours of seat time. The groups will be...

Novice - Limited point-by passing on straights only.
Intermediate - Limited point-by passing on straights only.
Advanced - Open passing with a point-by.
Race Test and Tune - Prepped and logbooked cars with licensed drivers. Open race passing.

Replacing the Instructor group with a full race T&T group is the significant change here. It makes the event more attractive as a T&T for the weekend racers, and removes full race cars and drivers from the Advanced PDX group.

The second change is the instruction format. The Track Night in America "Lead-Follow / Observe-Feedback" technique has matured for a couple of years and has proven to be successful, so we are going to roll that approach into a PDX event, where I am confident that it will be just as successful. Not having to place an instructor in every novice and intermediate car will allow us to focus on quality vs. quantity, which has become a serious issue in recent years. If you attend this event, you can expect plenty of feedback and very high quality instruction, but it won't be coming from the passenger seat while you are driving.

That sounds awesome.  I actually took the T-Bird up there on May 1st but I had a brake line fail as I was pulling out of tech inspection so I had a flat bed ride home.  It was also pouring down rain too so that also made me nervous.  I would definitely like to hear some details though.  I'm interested as long as it doesn't break the bank.

I guess I didn't declare my intentions. I'll be there on Friday evening with the wife and family to camp out and run autocross on Saturday.  I would love to do HPDE in the T-Bird but I just can't justify the cost and I'm not sure the family is prepared to sleep over on Saturday too.

Might be racing the Mustang up there at the OVR race on the 14th adn 15th.

Maybe have Kathy drive the PDX on the 13th?

Awesome.  Thanks.

not a problem..
i know it seems steep if you factor in how much you pay for seat time at an auto-x
vs how much you'll pay for seat time at the pdx i don't think you will find the value prop to be too far off :)

Actually it's a pretty good price.  I paid more for May 1st and didn't even get to run because a broken brake hose fitting.  It is a pretty long way to drive in the T-Bird but I'll be doing it for Carfest so it's not too bad.

carfest was considerably more than the SCCA PDX's... I've done plenty of PDX's, and are always fun, no idea what carfest offers but they definitely have a higher cost of entry. I'll be doing the OVR PDX likely in Oct too.

The PDX will be posted soon on MSR. The format is going to be a bit different this year. Dave Brown is the chair and more information coming very soon.
