: OVR PDX! October 13!

Its up in Motorsports Registration. My favorite event of the year! https://ucarecdn.com/7d1fb6ce-28b8-4f79-9939-718405df9dda/-/preview/

Is there an option for the just the AM session or just the PM session?

Rich, did you mention a possible change of format (from traditional PDX/HPDE)? If so, I didn't see it on the MSR site either. Thanks.

First off, the format will be 4 run groups with the goal of getting everyone ~2 hours of seat time. The groups will be...

Novice - Limited point-by passing on straights only.
Intermediate - Limited point-by passing on straights only.
Advanced - Open passing with a point-by.
Race Test and Tune - Prepped and logbooked cars with licensed drivers. Open race passing.

Replacing the Instructor group with a full race T&T group is the significant change here. It makes the event more attractive as a T&T for the weekend racers, and removes full race cars and drivers from the Advanced PDX group. Because I'm smart like that.

The second change is the instruction format. The Track Night in America "Lead-Follow / Observe-Feedback" technique has matured for a couple of years and has proven to be successful, so we are going to roll that approach into a PDX event, where I am confident that it will be just as successful. Not having to place an instructor in every novice and intermediate car will allow us to focus on quality vs. quantity, which has become a serious issue in recent years. If you attend this event, you can expect plenty of feedback and very high quality instruction, but it won't be coming from the passenger seat while you are driving.

Well shoot, once again I'll have to miss this since it falls on our anniversary weekend and I'll be in Nashville. Have fun and be safe.

Lets talk seat time. A nice autocross day could get you five minutes of driving with anger and then multiply that by say ten events, and you have a good season. This math is simple. The last few OVR PDXs have put us on the track for one hundred minutes on a professional drivers favorite, at speeds that make autocross look like a tea party. If you have not done a track day, you owe this to you. Track day insurance will be available. OVR ROCKS!

Registration completed.

We have registered. While fun, driving in the rain in the GT3 is a little hair raising. I spun out on turn 1, in front of Carol...I think....
But this time around, Lori is in the GT3, unless it is wet, then she is driving the Type R.

PDX insurance is now available from Lockton Motorsports. Good sleep aid the night before.

I don't think we have ever run a lapping day, PDX, or HPDE without track insurance. It does help us sleep at night, knowing if something unforseen happens, we are covered. Everyone on the track is very focused out cars all around them, so in that respect, safer than on the street.  And you don't pass unless the car being overtaken, gives the signal to pass.

I was thinking about getting track insurance but I already registered what can I do?

It is a separate company.
I just advise you consider it, before showing up at the event.

MidOhio is waiting for you. October 13th. OVR PDX TIME! Motorsports Registration.

Hey all the Supps state that registration closes tonight for the PDX, but I have extended them on motorsportreg.com until Oct 6th. If you've been waiting until the last minute you've got a reprieve. As noted earlier the format is different from previous years, but will still be NOVICE FRIENDLY. Depending on the numbers there may be ride along instructors available. Novice first session will be lead/follow and very reduced speeds so that you can get a chance to become familiar with the flag stations and turns. You will debrief after each session with instructors that are around the track and possibly on track observing. You can progress at your own speed. Nobody will be pushing you to exceed your comfort zone. Intermediate and Advanced sessions will be the same as years past. Come out and have some fun!

Now is the time to review your cars track worthiness. Brakes are number one. Good pads and rotors but also fresh, high temperature brake fluid. Lets get ready to massage the track!

I've held open registration for a couple days. Have you seen the forecast? 75 and sunny! Several years back it was in the 30s-40's for our club race about that time. This will be great. Sign up now!

FWIW ever since the first registration extension, the motorsportreg page has said that registration closes the day (technically the night) of the event.

Its time to register! A field of 40 cars! No better time to reg for any PDX! As David Brown said, the weather is perfect, and I say-the coarse is perfect, the club is perfect! OVR ROCKS!!!

Recovering from the PDX Friday and working the weekend, thats a lot for this old boy. The PDX was fantastic. Thanks loads to THE VOLUNTEERS, WORKERS AND Dave Brown! Well organized, relaxed and two hours of seat time! The fog in the morning was a bit wild but the weather was perfect after that. Everyone behaved and lots of courtesy on the track and the paddock. OVR ROCKS!!

Definitely fun. Would have been nice to not be stuck in novice group with probably the fastest car there, but that's the risk of sharing a car. Morning was a bit painful but once everyone figured out how to let others pass, the field spread out a lot and it was fine.

I understand they did it different this year.  Instead of the Instructor riding along, they used a "lead / follow" type of arrangement.

How did you like that?

it was good
i personally like having an instructor in the car with me
so my husband put his life in his own hands and went with me
some of the concepts are easier for me to be discussed as i'm applying them... and by discussed i mean he suggests something from the passenger seat and I yell NO I DON"T LIKE IT to his suggestion .. it was an amusing in car video

i also personally wouldn't want to be a rider EVER with someone on the track.. so lead follow makes the most sense.

anyone could take a passenger if they wanted to, mine just happened to be a valuable one.
