Title: October Event at Mid Ohio - Who's Going?
Post by: BRZBoy on September 08, 2019, 08:43:20 PM
Just trying to get a feel about who is going to go to Mid Ohio in October.  Looks like it's on the 25th.

Assuming everything goes OK this coming weekend, I am considering taking the T-Bird.

I might try to get up there since the autox season is cut short

I'll be a fair weather fan for anything at the end of October, and we will see if I have already torn into the off-season projects on the z06 or not.

OK.  Depending on how things go this weekend will determine this mostly for me.  If some of you are going that will definitely help me decide.

Ryan and I are planning on going, Ryan in the GT3 and myself in the rallycross boxster. Which reminds me I've been procrastinating on putting the new brakes on it that I've had sitting around since winter.

Cool.  Looks like we're building a group.

The wife unit and I are interested, pending the weather forecast.

Looks like registration closes at the end of September so I'm not sure how you're going to measure the forecast but I want in on it too.  ;)

I finally logged some laps in the wet this summer, so I'm more dependent on whether I've got the money to blow than anything. Rain actually puts the BRZ at a level playing field out there  :D

So, I ran on September 14th at NTR and the day was partly successful.  I learned that I have way more brakes than I thought and that what appeared to be a small amount of pedal travel that I thought was "soft" actually contained some braking in it.  Learning the finer touches will be the order of the day.  I also learned that I have a problem that I need to address which is what I believe to be a fuel injector problem.  I've been swamped at work and have just not had the mental energy to tear apart the upper part of the engine let alone ship out my other set of injectors for a rebuild.

I'm probably not going to make it to the event unfortunately.

I donít have any use for Mid Ohio when itís wet; I donít care what kind of driverís meeting pep talk is given.

:D Aaron is signed up with the same assumption - it's not soggy!

With no side windows and no windshield wipers I think it's more than I want to try and manage and that would be with a properly running car.

Two quick questions regarding Friday Track Event. 1.  Are there ride along in instructors, or advance drivers cars.   2.  Are my magnet numbers from AutoX good.

Thanks in advance
Kyle A.

From experience, magnetic numbers aren't a good idea. The speeds on course they may fly off and never to be found again. You can help by putting tape down on the leading edges.

Not exactly sure what you're asking in the first question. I don't believe passengers are allowed, if that's what you're asking. If you're asking about how instructing works, the last couple of years the event has been run "track night" style, with the first novice group being a lead-follow session with instructor cars, then the rest of the day being instructed from outside of the car. Not sure if this year is that format again or the traditional instructor in the car format.

As for magnetic numbers, there's a lot of variables. If you have good quality magnetic material that sticks well and a car that isn't terribly fast, they'll probably be fine. I would probably add tape along the leading edge to be safe. If you have thick paint, cheap magnetic material, and/or a fast car, probably not the best plan.
