As some of you may know, we have a designated group that has been working on potential future autocross sites for the OVR Solo program.  As you can see in the table at the link below, there are a number of potential sites that have been discussed and looked into around the central Ohio area. Guidance from a number of local regions and the national organization stress the benefit of having an insider contact for a potential site as a major advantage in opening the door for discussion about lot rental.

So we are asking if anyone knows of any contacts at any of the locations that we have listed in the table. For their privacy, please do not list their information below and instead send Jeff or myself a personal message on the forum or email the OVR Solo gmail account. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!

I'd like to believe the Zoo doesn't need the outer lots at the beginning/end of the season, especially when the water park isn't open. But I might be biased since it's basically down the street from my house and the pavement looks decent even if it is on the small side.

How about OSU Newark?  They have a couple of decent sized lots and I know they have motorcycle training classes there (you can see the marks in the photo linked below).  The lots look to be in good shape.  Maybe the contact at the main campus can suggest a contact.  We could grid in lot C and run in lot E so we are further away from the main road.

Google maps says the lots are all tiny, like 1/3 the size of national trail.

I'd like to see the abandoned golf course at 71 and 270 (on the south side) be turned into a motorsports park. It is surrounded by highways, a quarry, and the turd-twirler. Could be a good place for racing. It is currently owned by Franklin County/Solid Waste.

I think that they main gotcha might be that it's unstable soil.  They said that the site wouldn't support planting trees on it because it's just buried garbage.  I don't know for sure though.

Hey guys,

Sean Butt from the Mid Ohio PCA and Buckeye Miata club mentioned that Cooper Stadium might be a potential site since it sounds like there are going to be some events there.  I'm not sure about size or condition but I told him I would reach out and let you know.

A follow up post was made on the page indicating that waivers/site insurance, etc was being obtained for an event to be hosted there in the form of grudge racing. For those not in the know it's a form of lights out street racing held in a controlled environment at times. At the end of the post it mentions Marion County Raceway/Cooper Stadium. Just opening the dialogue again for Cooper.

Nope. Trust me on this, my source couldn't be any higher up the ladder. That was not a permitted activity and those folks were trespassing. The police will be present on the 31st to prevent any further trespassing. Cooper is not available for racing/motorsports at this time.

Unbelievable how much hype/confidence is going around, will be interesting to see what happens. I would trust what SCCA guys have to say about it over the people involved with this.

Not sure which part of the airport you are considering. The south ( Case Rd) side of the airport is currently undergoing a major re-construction. A new multi-tenant FBO is being built, and a new ramp and parking area along with it. Some of the aircraft tenants  have been relocated to the old guard ramp on the 161 side while the construction is going on.

On the subject of airports: has Rickenbacker been considered? Thereís loads of lovely under-used pavement down there, and Allegiant isnít exactly bringing in a lot of money.  Tongue

I hear Eastland Mall is open to autocross rentals. Someone at the last event mentioned some other group is using it at some point this year. I can't remember the group though

I havent found any local autox groups that have run at eastland.  I did see that Dream Drive Exotics ran a event there last year, http://dreamdriveexotics.com/event/eastland-mall-2-2/.  I also saw that The Motorsport Lab had an event planned there this year but was cancelled https://www.motorsportlab.com/book-now/

Cincinnati region probably has 1.25 metric craptons of orange fencing sitting dormant since the loss of Wilmington.  Not that I would volunteer to be the guy responsible for setting it up  Grin

part of the reason I brought it up is that I asked and the person told me that Eastland just wasn't as busy anymore (and consequently probably desperate to make $$$). It still may be worth a look if that's the case since it partially addresses your concern

The issue with closing the road that goes along the back of Eastland Mall isn't that we lack the materials to do so. We likely lack the authority. It's a public road. We may as well have tried to control the traffic at Ackerman events by closing Fred Taylor Dr ourselves.

Technically, you can call the city to close your neighborhood road for a block party, so you might be able to have a city truck drop off Road Closed signs and they'll pick them back up on Monday. Used to work for the City of Pickerington service dept and there were a few times I would load up the signs and drop them off on a Friday.

Years ago when I lived in Hilliard (Columbus proper) we did the block party thing with closed roads. If I remember correctly it required a resident of the area to make the application - and anyone with a driveway within that area still had to be allowed access. But that was a long time ago so maybe things have changed.

Thanks for bringing this one to our attention Jeff. The paved area on the south side is close to 200k square feet, which should be large enough for us to play with. We'll work on getting some eyes on it to check the asphalt/concrete condition and we'll go from there.

I don't know if it's viable, but I keep looking at the east part of the lot for the olf JCP outlet store on Brice Road.  The west side always has cars parked in it, but the east & southeast side is almost always vacant.

Another possible place to look into - Boeing in Heath.  They have a side lot that looks like an overflow and smaller lot next to it that looks like it would work for the grid.  It's not near any houses, so noise should not be an issue.  I have no idea who the contact would be.  It's not as large as NTR, but looks to be comparable to the size of it east of the building...

Doing some searching, I ran across this location: 2859 London Groveport Rd, Grove City, OH 43123

It's the FedEx site and it looks like a pretty large overflow parking lot.  Do you guys think it's an adequate site?  If so, I'll see what I can do to find a contact and figure out if it's possible to rent it.

When we think adequate I think we need to start lowering our standards and just get some more options to run at!
If you are willing and able to pursue Randy I'd say go for it!! having only one site is worse than having 4 mediocre sites
