Toledo ProSolo and Champ Tour Site Update
Tire Rack SCCA National Solo Drivers,

It has come to our attention that the two 2018 National Solo events at the Toledo Express Airport, scheduled for June 15-17 (ProSolo) and July 27-29 (Champ Tour), might be in jeopardy due to the available Solo area being used by another tenant.
An auto manufacturer that has an option on the space has exercised that option and placed a LOT of vehicles on the available Solo area. It is unknown at this time how long these vehicles will remain on the airport property.
Registration for the June ProSolo is scheduled to open the first week in May. However, if by May 1st there is not enough space available to conduct a National Solo event, the ProSolo will be rescheduled for July 27-29 and the Toledo Champ Tour originally scheduled for July will be cancelled. We are investigating some alternate sites for a Champ Tour on June 15-17 if we have to reschedule the June ProSolo.
On June 12th just prior to the opening of registration, we will determine if enough space will be available to conduct the rescheduled ProSolo on July 27-29. If space will not be available, we will be forced to cancel the event, as we are currently unaware of any site alternatives in the GLDIV area for conducting a ProSolo event. Any suggestions for a site on this weekend would be welcomed.
If any of the above becomes necessary, we will refund entry fees as needed.
As many of you who are event organizers know, some venues have contract out clauses that allow the owner to cancel within some period of time prior to our scheduled events if another opportunity is available to them. This usually applies to sports stadiums or other locations that might host large concerts. It is rare for this to happen at an airport, but it unfortunately does happen from time to time.
We apologize for any inconveniences and will keep you informed as we learn more.
In summary, nothing has changed as of right now. This communication is to let you know that there is a good possibility that it could.
Key dates:
May 1: Decision on June 15-17 weekend will be made. If not available, the Toledo ProSolo will tentatively move to July 27-29 date.
June 12: Final decision on whether the ProSolo can be held July 27-29.

Locally we have a bit of a mess since we had planned on the majority of our events at the airport this year.

Sad Sadness.

Who wants to start the crowdfunding effort to repave NTR now that that and the cincy flea market lot are somehow the only viable autocross sites in the state of Ohio?

Well, I think crowd funding is certainly interesting but we would need the NTR owners on board with any plans.  What the chances that (with some lot expansion) that we could get the site to be a national site for Solo?  They might be interested in meeting us half way if they could get some longer term benefit out of it.

Are the NTR owners local?

Current owners are not, they own the same site/track that Solo Nationals ran at for a few years back in the day before Lincoln.

So the current owners are actually familiar with this sort of thing....that seems like it would be a bonus.

What is it we're trying to do again?
Auto-x isn't a lucrative financial thing for any site owner
additionally we have to be careful what we ask for
we're pretty fortunate we're still running at the site based on last years challenges
many clubs have lost lots for far less.

NTR ownership has national experience, but as Simi said, autocross isnít a lucrative business. Thereís been a lot of talk before about the club re-paving the site or part of the site, but I think thatís a non-starter. Current management seems to like us well enough, especially because we are easy money on weekends they have nothing else going on, but thatís also the thing. We only get the weekends where nothing else is going on, as it is we didnít really get a selection on event dates. We just took everything we were offered. So the club putting money towards repaving of NTR just isnít worth it.

The two sites in Columbus that might have any national potential are Mapfre Stadium(roughly 1.5x the useable surface of NTR) and the Transportation Research Center(Endless beautiful concrete) but TRC wants $$$$ and is VERY restrictive with access and cameras and always busy, and Mapfre is usually pretty booked as well.

They do have a stadium rental contact form on their website and they do seem to have an opening during one of the Toledo event weekend. Might not be crazy to see reach out to them...

Bad (low grip) asphalt at that. Way better than NTR for sure but nowhere near worth the cost or logistical nightmare.

I can promise you guys that when my plan to hit the jackpot comes to fruition I still plan on buying Consumer Square by Brice Road and repaving the entire thing... so we do have that going for us
